West Point Decorative Plate in Maryland
Maryland DMV Application for a West Point License Plate
Despite being in the heart of squid territory, with the United States Naval Academy valiantly guarding our beloved Chesapeake Bay, Maryland still shows some love to us West Point grads. Shows Annapolis who really rules the land by applying for a decorative plate through the MDOT Department of Motor Vehicle’s Organization page. Filter on “West Point”.
To prove you’re a ring-knocker, you’ll need to obtain a signed copy of MDOT form VR-124 (11-12). This is done by contacting Bill Taylor, Class of 1970, the designated MDOT authenticator for West Point plates. You’ll send them your full name, address, Cullum number and get back the signed form in return. Conveniently, Bill has provided a set of PDF instructions to make this easy.
The price, as of 2025, (in additional to usual registration fees, etc) is just $30, paid to MDOT (not Bill). Eligible vehicles include passenger cars, multi-purpose vehicles, trucks under 10,000lbs, and even motorcycles.
Military License Plate
Not a West Point grad, or just want to show off a campaign medal or a unit affiliation? The MDOT DMV also has several decorative military license plates to choose from, such as a Purple Heart, the Afghanistan Campaign, US Army Veteran, and dozens of others.
For those, you’ll need the Application for Military Related Plates (VR-120) form from the DMV and $25.
